Steel Structure Industrial Plant

Steel structures can achieve large-span design (column-free spans of up to 30-50m) through portal frames and bent frames, while concrete structures are limited by the material's compressive properties and require intermediate columns for large spans (otherwise the beam cross-section will be too large, affecting the space). For example, a mechanical processing plant needs to place large equipment or cranes, and the column-free space of a steel structure can avoid being blocked by columns, improving the flexibility of equipment layout.

Advantages of Steel Structure Industrial Plant

Prefabricated production of components

Core components such as steel columns, steel beams, and purlins are processed in a standardized manner in the factory, with high dimensional accuracy (such as component length deviation can be controlled within ±5mm), reducing on-site cutting, welding and other processes. Compared with concrete plants (need to wait for concrete curing, and the construction period of a single building is usually more than 6 months), the on-site installation of steel structure plants is mainly bolted. A single plant of about 1,000 square meters can complete the main installation within 1-2 months, shortening the overall construction period by 30%-50%.

Construction is less affected by the environment

Concrete construction is greatly affected by temperature (insulation is required in winter) and precipitation (pouring is impossible on rainy days), while steel structure components can be prefabricated in the factory, and on-site installation is less dependent on weather (only strong winds, heavy rains and other extreme weather require suspension of hoisting), which is especially suitable for areas with tight construction schedules or changeable climates.

Material strength and self-weight advantages

The tensile and compressive strength of steel is about 10 times that of concrete (Q355 steel tensile strength ≥ 355MPa, C30 concrete is only about 30MPa), and the density-to-strength ratio is lower (i.e., the "strength-to-weight ratio" is high). Under the same load, the cross-section of steel structure components is smaller (for example, the cross-section of steel columns can be more than 50% smaller than that of concrete columns), and the self-weight is lighter (the overall self-weight is about 1/3-1/2 of the concrete structure), which can reduce the foundation bearing pressure, especially suitable for soft soil foundations (reducing the cost of foundation treatment).

Strong earthquake resistance and deformation resistance

Steel has good plasticity and toughness (obvious deformation before fracture, which can absorb earthquake energy), while concrete is brittle (easy to crack and break in earthquakes). Under the action of earthquakes, steel structure workshops can buffer vibrations through their own deformation, and the earthquake resistance level can reach 7-9 degrees (specific design required), which is much higher than the same type of concrete workshops. In addition, the overall rigidity of the steel structure is good, and it is not easy to crack under the repeated load of the crane, and the structural stability is more durable.
